An illegal black bear killing led to one Apalachicola, Fla., man losing his hunting privileges and rifle after he was found guilty of the crime.
Larry Joe Colson was charged in January after Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission officers found a dead bear on Colson’s leasing property. Colson admitted to killing the bear.
Colson was ordered to pay $1,150 in fines, give his .30-06 rifle and scope to the state, serve six months probation, and forfeit his hunting and fishing privileges for three years in Florida, as well as 26 other states. The property owners of the land, St. John’s Company, also informed Colson that he would be banned from hunting their land for five years.
