A rare Florida panther was spotted on camera at the Audubon Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary in southwest Florida on the morning of May 12.

Dick Brewer, a park volunteer, took the image of the panther with his camera walking along the park’s two-mile boardwalk and into the cypress forest.

Naturalist Debbie Lotter also encountered the cat about half a mile from where Brewer caught the Florida panther on camera. Lotter estimated the cat weighed about 100 pounds and was seven feet long, according to Outdoor News.

Only about 100 Florida panthers remain in the state.
