The Idaho Fish and Game Commission voted yesterday to extend the wolf season in most of the state’s unclosed wolf zones until March 3.

The zones with extensions include the Panhandle, Palouse-Hells Canyon, Selway, Middle Fork, Salmon, Southern and South Idaho zones. The Lolo and Sawtooth zones already have March 31 closing dates.

All other restrictions and hunting limits will remain the same. Hunters will need to buy a 2010 wolf hunting tag if they plan to hunt past Dec. 31.

Wolf zones Dworshak-Elk City in north Idaho, McCall-Weiser in west central Idaho, and Upper Snake in eastern Idaho have been closed. Other zones nearing the closing quota include the Middle Fork, Southern Mountains and the Palouse-Hells Canyon.
