Wednesday, Nov. 19 has been designated National Ammo Day by the Nation of Volunteers Foundation (NVF), a not-for-profit corporation “dedicated to improving the world, one person at a time, one volunteer at a time.” The organization is calling it an “Ammo BUYcott.”
This will be the seventh annual Ammo Day, the purpose of which, according to the Web site www.ammoday.com, is to “empty the ammunition from the shelves of your local gun store, sporting goods store, or hardware store and put that ammunition in the hands of law-abiding citizens. Make your support of the Second Amendment known — by voting with your dollars!”
Certainly, rising material costs and the financial burden of fighting frivolous lawsuits have put a strain on the pocketbooks of ammo manufacturers lately (and yes, we know, your wallet as well). But since it’s hunting season and you need the ammo anyway, why not hit your local sporting-goods store and pick some up? The NVF’s goal is to get every hunter to buy 100 rounds on National Ammo Day.
Plus, given the results of the recent election and the potential for tighter ammo- and gun-control laws in the near future, stocking up probably isn’t a bad idea.
